Brenntag buys Dutch chemical distributor C.N. Schmidt B.V.

Brenntag, the global leader in chemical distribution has announced the acquisition of the chemical distributor C.N. Schmidt B.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1921, C.N. Schmidt is specialty chemicals distributor operating in the Netherlands and in Belgium focused on the on the food, pharma, rubber and water treatment sectors.

Steve Holland, Chief Executive Brenntag Europe, sees in this acquisition a strong complement to Brenntag’s distribution network in Europe: “In C.N.Schmidt we have found a strong and experienced distributor of specialty chemicals. This acquisition enables us to strengthen our position in the important Benelux market as well as our business in Europe. Furthermore C.N. Schmidt is an ideal fit to Brenntag’s strategy being a full-line distributor with a two channel approach to the market and thereof one channel fully geared to specialty chemicals.”

Brenntag Nederland B.V., located in Dordrecht is a leading distributor of chemicals in the Netherlands with more than 240 employees.

Brenntag recorded 2007 external sales of € 6.7 Bn (US$ 9.1 billion). Brenntag operates in excess of 300 locations with more than 11,000 people in 55 countries.
