REACH - EU parliament vote could decide the future viability of many SME's
Intense debate between the European Parliament, the council of ministers and the EU's Finnish presidency now means the second reading on the Reach chemical legislation will take place on the 12 December, a month later than planned. The industry remains concerned that mandatory substitution, strongly supported by the European Parliament will form part of the final legislation. It is estimated that the REACH-legislation will come into force around April 2007. Finland wants to see the legislation finalised before it hands over the presidency at the end of the year and is trying to bring about a compromise and so avoid what could be a lengthy conciliation process.

The Chemical Business Association (CBA) believes the European Union’s Environment Committee's recent vote has been a major set-back in achieving a workable and affordable REACH system for the many thousands of smaller and medium-sized firms (SMEs) that make up 95% of the European industry. “We believe the Committee’s recent REACH vote is a step backwards in achieving a workable and affordable REACH system which SMEs can implement without becoming uncompetitive,” said Melvyn Whyte, Chairman of the CBA’s REACH Task Force. What's new on chemagility.com

Rising to the top of Google.com
The world chemical distributor directory at chemagility.com has rapidly established itself as one of the leading sites on the Web to find information about chemical distributors. Since its launch in February 2006 the site has risen from being 100 pages off the top slot to a coveted position on the 1st page. David Brown, Marketing Director of chemagility.com believes alot of this success is attributable to the company's search engine marketing (SEM) strategy. The site is now attracting over 10,000 visitors/month and is also on the 1st page of Yahoo and MSN.

Improved search directory design
The directory, search results and company profile pages have been re-designed to a "fluid layout" that automatically re-sizes the page to a visitors screen resolution. This has significantly improved the usability of the site in terms of providing more detailed information in the results returned by searches and directory listings. The design of this section of the site now has a look and feel closely resembling other major search directories - so this will make the interface easier to use for most visitors.

Multinational Profiles Introduced
New sections for Multinational Distributors and Chemical Alliances have also been added to give the larger distributor groups an opportunity to promote their international distribution capabilities. Companies subscribing to a Multinational Profile have a special overview detailing their operating companies and regional coverage. Each operating company can also have their own full profile. Visit the section on multinationals. If you would like more information about this please contact us on +44 (01420) 520393 or 476191, alternatively email us.
